Banner Aetna presents Badges & Backpacks



In alignment with our commitment to community engagement the Sheriff’s Department is holding our fourth annual Badges and Backpack’s event presented by Banner Aetna. We want to provide students in Pima County with an all-inclusive event focused on equipping youth with a safe and healthy school year. Established in 2015 to provide students with the resources they need to be successful in school, we are thrilled to announce this year’s event has been elevated to include a health fair, brought to you by El Rio Health, and extracurricular family and youth activities.

We strongly feel this all-inclusive event is a valuable addition to the already 2,000 backpacks we will be filling with schools supplies. Each year Badges and Backpacks gets bigger and better, exceeding expectations. This event is a beneficial outlet for community outreach and education for families and we are excited about the additional resources we have planned for this year’s event.

Health Fair- to include but not limited to Immunizations, Dental and Vision Screenings, On-site Nurses and Pediatricians, Get Moving Exercise Activities, Health Snacks Cooking Demonstrations

The Safety Station- to include but not limited to Fingerprinting, Anti-drug Task Force, Bicycle and Helmet Safety, Stranger Danger, Gun Safety

Family Fun Activities & Promotions- to include but not limited to Fun to Read, Animal and Desert Explorer Activities, Arts & Crafts, Giveaways and Raffles. Local recreation organizations will also provide onsite activities and resources for youth.

*** Backpacks are available as first come, first served. The child must be present and enrolled in grades K-12. NO EXCEPTIONS. 

Immunizations are for K-12 children, administered based on availability, and legal guardian MUST be present. ***

Parking for the exhibit hall will be free in Lot B which accessible from Granada Ave, south of Congress St and west of I-10. You can get more information for the Tucson Convention Center website.

Basics

Summary: In alignment with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department commitment to community engagement, the Badges and Backpacks event was created to provide youth with necessary resources to positively start the school year.  This year’s event will elevate to include a health fair, extracurricular activities and reading awareness.

Scale: Pima County’s population is 1,106,206 with 217,468 (21%) under the age of 18 years old (according to 2016 U.S. Census Bureau ).

Target: Elementary/ Middle/ High School youth

Location: Tucson Convention Center - Exhibit Hall A & B (combined 59,840 sq. ft.) 260 S. Church Avenue, Tucson, Arizona 85701

Activities:  Up to 2,000 children will receive a backpack stuffed with school supplies. The first 500 backpacks will contain a voucher for a free pair of tennis shoes. The health fair will offer free immunizations services for school-aged kids, dental and vision screenings with nurses and pediatricians on-site for outreach information.  The Safety Station will include fingerprinting, anti-drug task force, bicycle and helmet safety, stranger danger, gun safety and after school/extracurricular programs for children.  Family fun activities include exercise demos, youth focused activities, cooking/healthy snack demonstrations, face painting, princess and superheroes, local dance, music and sports organizations.

Swag: Youth will be encouraged to take their backpack around the exhibit hall to fill with free youth and family focused items from a variety of local partners.

Exhibitor Conditions

This is a youth focused event where exhibitors interact with youth and families. Each exhibitor booth must be youth and/or family focused. Exhibitors are encouraged to have engaging activities, demonstrations and/or promotional items. The sale of items, services or goods is prohibited at the event. Exhibitors are allowed to provide information on what their organization can provide but initiating transactions at the event is prohibited. Failure to behave in accordance with wholesome family atmospheres will result in expulsion from the event. 

 

Arrival Times

Exhibitors will be allowed to setup between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM day of event. The event concludes at 12:00 PM and exhibitors may not leave prior to the conclusion of the event.

 

Insurance Requirements

Exhibitors may be required to provide a one million dollar release of liability insurance certificate naming the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Food vendors must also provide a copy of their health permit.

 

Applications

Exhibitor applications are accepted on a first come basis depending upon availability and the services, exhibit or food being provided. There is NO exhibitor fee.

Give a brief description of what services your organization will provide, activities that will be performed and what promotional items you will be distributing.
Each vendor is allocated a space that includes one 8' table (with linen) and two chairs. Please specify if you need additional space, tables, or chairs. Also, clarify if you will need electricity. Request will be granted based on availability
